Have you been wondering what it takes to become an entrepreneur? Do you think that you might have the qualities to become one? Or are you sure that you are on the road to becoming an entrepreneur? Let’s examine what it takes to develop, create and have entrepreneurial skills.
An entrepreneur according to Wikipedia is “An owner or manager of a business enterprise who makes money through risk and initiative.” The word originally came from the French in the 19th century and it was used in the context of taking an enterprise and bridging the difference between capital and labor. You can say that an entrepreneur acts as an intermediary and shifts economic resources from the basic level to effect higher productivity. In today’s jargon many people would like to be an entrepreneur but they are not sure how to achieve the status.
A friend and fellow business partner found a wonderful photo of a small boy with a clenched fist and face with the following words:
“Work my butt off in school to get an education, leave college with mounds of debt, then continue to work my butt off with a JOB making someone else rich. Those are fighting words Mom & Dad!!… I’m going to become an entrepreneur!”
That certainly makes me wonder why more people do not develop entrepreneurial skills and declare “I am an entrepreneur.”
More and more people are becoming disenchanted with “the job” that they perform day in day out and are not pleased with their income. Not only are they not pleased with their income but they feel that they are not valued for the contributions that they make to their company. Many employers don’t feel it is important to compliment staff for their worth to the company. This makes people feel disenchanted with their job!
What should you do to break out from this cycle as depicted in the photo above? Many are turning to the internet to create a business where you are your own boss. Many are finding that if they become responsible for their own destiny they will work harder, stay focused and produce positive results. This is how an entrepreneur thinks and acts; become an entrepreneur should be your mantra.
What are the ways that an individual can become an entrepreneur? An entrepreneur looks for opportunities to make a difference and creates them; don’t wait for someone else to do it for you!
If you have the desire to take action, then you should follow your instincts and go for it. Taking action gives you the stability to be on the road to becoming an entrepreneur. Exert your influence when you can and feel good about your ideas and the results. Entrepreneurs enjoy helping others and getting them to become an entrepreneur too.
An entrepreneur needs to be comfortable taking risks and finding new and innovative ways to solve problems. If you examine the few points that I have suggested in this article, I am sure that they will give you the impetus to becoming an entrepreneur. Here’s to your success!
